We weren’t exactly looking for trailer cord plug cover… As I walked through “The Big Tent” at the annual Quartzsite RV Show earlier today, I searched for something new and exciting to share with you here. I quickly scanned every booth while shuffling along as fast as I could through the throngs of awestruck attendees with canes and pet strollers or those rolling along in rented mobility scooters.
Honestly though, I found absolutely nothing worth reporting—nothing but the usual pain relief packs, anti-aging creams, polishing compounds, collapsible kitchen containers, rug rakes, and nonstick cookware. Well, there was the modernized magic fat jiggler…
To be perfectly honest, even that photo is from a few years ago. Simply put, not much has appeared to change over the years we’ve visited Quartzsite. So much for that review idea…
Instead, I’ll tell you about a simple little gadget we recently added to our toolbox of little known RV tips and tricks.
How to Protect Your RV Trailer Cord
A while back, the fine folks at GR innovations sent us a Plug Saver to review. This simple plastic cap snaps on to the end of your trailer cord to protect it from the elements and debris whenever it’s not plugged in.
If you tow a trailer—and if you’re like me—your cord gets thrown on the ground, a lot. I always did my best to keep dirt and debris from getting inside the plug. But that’s inevitable if you like boondocking out in the desert as much as we do. And after rewiring the 7-pin RV cord outlet in our truck, I wasn’t looking forward to ever replacing the plug! Now I don’t have to worry about that, thanks to the Plug Saver!
[box type=”tick” style=”rounded” border=”full”]Pros: With a snug fit, the Plug Saver stays put. Tight seal protects RV trailer cord plug from moisture & debris.[/box]
[box type=”alert” style=”rounded” border=”full”]Cons: The Plug Saver lacks any sort of built in retention, to keep it on the cord. And you won’t find it on Amazon.[/box]
The Plug Saver does have a sturdy hole in the cap that allowed me to attach it to our cord with a shoe lace, so it will never get lost. And for less than five bucks, the price can’t be beat!
If you’re also like me and prefer to shop for most of your RV accessories on Amazon, you might consider these only other options I found for protecting your trailer cord.
