As we prepare to head south after our long, strange trip to Alaska, we reflect upon all our unexpected adventures and the beautiful scenery we have found while roaming the The Last Frontier. So, we had this fun idea for proclaiming our faith to return…and sharing our message with the world.
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle…
–Message in a Bottle (The Police)
WHEREAS:
1. This is probably as far north as we will ever travel, until we return again–many years from now.
2. We drank some of our favorite memories, including the best vodka (and gin) we have ever tasted.
3. Our most memorable (fun) times included our stay in Hyder and the ferry trip to Haines.
THEREFORE:
Let it be known that a link to this post can be found floating somewhere in the Portland canal, with dreams of it reaching the Pacific Ocean–and beyond, as we sent it sailing early one morning in August, 2018 – singing so long to Alaska, for now.
We threw all our dreams to the sea
we experienced going down to hell…
–Look At Us (Johnny Hallyday, English translation)
The message reads:

Thank You!

Let’s see just how far our message in this Port Chilkoot Distillery bottle can travel.
Carried by the waters from Salmon Glacier, and set asea at the mouth of the Salmon river, we wonder just where it might reach.
…my life, my love and my lady is the sea
It is, it is, yes, it is…
–Brandy (Looking Glass)
Will a local fisherman find it nearby, or might it make its way to the Icy Strait of its namesake?
…the way it used to be follows me downstream,
so I keep knocking em back
Till I reach the banks of a distant shore,
where I won’t miss you anymore
–Distant Shore (Dierks Bentley)
How you can play along:
If you happen to find the bottle pictured above, you likely saw our message and made it here from the link inside.
Please leave a comment below with your location.
Then return it to the waters with a blessing for it to find its way to another distant shore.
Feel free to sing the song of your choice. Thank you for playing along!
Between the devil and the deep blue sea
That’s where I am I don’t know what that means
–Rabbit (Ray Wylie Hubbard)
