If you’re looking for an easy cheap fix for your leaky RV shower, you’ve found it! That is, if your shower is leaking the same way ours was. Thankfully, it’s a quick fix. So, I’ll keep this short. But first, let me explain.
Don’t get me wrong. I love our new Arctic Fox. Absolutely love everything about it! Almost.
Even the best, newest RVs are bound to have problems. Production quality control is lacking in all models. We’re very fortunate to not have any of the more severe problems we’ve heard about. However, when I noticed the water flowing from underneath our tub while Rene showered the first thing I did was panic.
I’m a logical guy. And maybe I overthink things just a bit sometimes. This particular time, I immediately jumped to the worst possible scenario. No, I knew for a fact that our plumbing was leaking under the tub. How else would water be seeping out at floor level!?
How? Easy. I ignored my own advice to think things through. Instead, I envisioned tearing out our tub. We were heading south, and there was no way we were going to wait around for any service appointment.
I first noticed water from the leaky RV shower on the floor. So of course the drain was leaking. Right?
How to Fix Leaky RV Shower
The very first step when fixing any RV problem is: Don’t panic. Then, turn off the water.
1. Identify the source of the problem.
Trace the source of the leak back to where it begins. For me, that entailed looking more closely at the shower curtain. I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I realized the cause of our leaky RV shower was a misaligned shower curtain.
The water was splashing out from the bottom of the curtain, and flowing under the mounting rail. Then it was running along the floor behind the bathtub apron. The only noticeable puddle was visible in the corner by the door. Being nearest to the tub drain, I panicked. I groaned. Rene screamed. Then I looked left.
Between the vanity and bathtub, I noticed the water pouring out. Nothing a little caulk couldn’t fix, right!? Almost.
2. Take appropriate measures.
Remember that production quality control I mentioned? The sliding shower curtain was misaligned, causing poor closure. And, there was no caulking along the shower curtain bottom mounting rail. Fantastic! No major catastrophe. So, I considered my options and quickly came up with this quick cheap fix for our leaky RV shower.
First, I applied a good seam of silicone calk along the shower curtain rail. That is, after I thoroughly dried and cleaned the area. Then, I installed a shower splash guard in the corner of the tub that was leaking. These inexpensive guards come in various sizes and styles. Most have an adhesive strip and are very simple to install. I only needed one, to mount at the source of the leak. And, I needed to notch out a small piece of the plastic to fit the guard securely over a screw in the mounting rail. But, now I have a spare guard for future use.
With a fresh bead of calk and a simple splash guard, we no longer have a leaky RV shower. If you have water on the floor while showering, I hope your fix is just as simple!
The morale of this story is to not panic. Don’t jump to conclusions. And be grateful when you discover a quick cheap fix for any RV repairs. Be very grateful.
