Just A Few Dam Photos

Wondering what to share for my fun Friday Photos post, I checked my phone for a few I had not yet uploaded.

Cochiti Lake Dam
Cochiti Lake Dam, Santa Fe NM

Rene said Cochiti Lake Dam is one of the largest dams in the world. I had to correct her, it ranks up there as one of the 10 longest earthen dams in the United States. Apparently rather controversial too. Dam.

Cochiti Lake Dam

As the son of a geotechnical engineer who worked with the USACE which builds these things, I was rather impressed with this 250+ foot high, five-plus mile long mound of dirt.

It also made for a nice and easy running route, though some may argue running eight miles in a straight line might get rather boring. So I thought of some of the other dams we’ve seen in our travels…

Hoover Dam

One of the first was Hoover Dam, but that was way back in the day, obviously…

Hoover Dam Bypass

Back when you could still drive over the dam to get where you were going when leaving Las Vegas.

Grand Tetons
Grand Tetons Beaver Dam

Nearly as long ago, there was this rather impressive Beaver Dam we saw during our stay near the Grand Tetons with Jerry.

John Day Dam

More recently, was another amazing feat of dam engineering that deserved its own John Day Dam video, from one of our first stops on that long strange trip to Alaska.

Yukon River Dam

A couple thousand miles later on that journey, we enjoyed boondocking along the Yukon river – where we spotted more dam beavers.

These dam places we visit always get me thinking of Dad. After all, he was a proud member of The Beavers himself. And I’m sure he would have been proud of that dam Agridrain project I worked on while workamping at Vickers Ranch.

Dam. Thought we might have more dam photos than that in our Live Work Dream Galleries.
